I have rebuilt my life across several countries: first moving to the Netherlands, then to Canada, and eventually returning to the Netherlands and settling in Haarlem. So much of that experience happened through screens—messages, documents, applications and calls. I missed having something physical that could make a place feel a little more like home: paper you can hold, words you can return to, and an envelope arriving with something inside that was chosen deliberately.
The idea for Shiny Souls became real while I was collecting ideas for the first autumn mailing. I was thinking about September, the first cold evenings, ripe fruit, making the home cosy again, and the quiet shift inward that comes with autumn. I realised I did not want to create another generic wellness product. I wanted to make the kind of letter I would have wanted during the years when I was rebuilding my own life—something thoughtful, specific and human, arriving outside the noise of the internet.
When the envelope arrives, I hope the person feels that someone remembered them. That they can make a cup of tea, sit down for a moment and open something that does not demand an immediate reply. Just a small piece of mail that helps them feel closer to themselves, and perhaps a little more at home.
